With very little light pollution out here, clear nights put on a remarkable show. The Milky Way is brightest from May to October, when the winter air is at its clearest and driest.

Best viewing spots are the gazebo lookout — softly lit so your eyes can still adjust to the dark — or your own verandah once the outdoor lights are off.

Free apps like SkyView or Stellarium can help identify constellations overhead.

Or just sit quietly and look up for a while.
