Explore the Granite Belt
The Granite Belt does very good light — particularly early and late in the day. If you're chasing sunrise, golden hour, or wide-open granite country, these are some of our favourite places to point a camera:
- The gazebo lookout or Walking Track 1 summit — sunset through the trees and across the valley from right here on the property
- The Pyramid, Girraween National Park — worth the early start for sunrise light over the granite peaks
- Bald Rock — enormous granite formations and uninterrupted sky at almost any hour
- Donnelly's Castle — giant balancing boulders, natural passages, and excellent late-afternoon light
- Mount Marley Lookout — expansive rural views, particularly beautiful in softer evening light
- Quart Pot Creek — easy walking paths, footbridges, autumn colour, and good morning reflections through town
- Storm King Dam — calm water, granite hills, birdlife, and lovely still conditions around sunrise and dusk
- 31 The Rocks after dark — ideal for night photography, especially during clear winter skies when the Milky Way stretches sharply overhead
The best light usually arrives earlier than people expect up here — and disappears just as quickly once the sun drops behind the granite.
