Insects, Ticks & Spiders
Safety & Emergency
Being surrounded by bushland means the occasional insect or spider encounter comes with the territory — though most are far more interested in avoiding you than the other way around.
Mosquitoes — usually mild around the property, though they're more active after rain and during warmer evenings. Insect repellent is provided in your kitchen cupboard.
Ticks — uncommon, but possible in long grass and bushland areas. After walks, it's worth checking clothing and skin carefully. If removing a tick, use fine tweezers or a tick-removal tool and seek medical advice if irritation, illness, or a rash develops afterwards.
Spiders — Huntsmen occasionally wander indoors, particularly at night. Despite their dramatic appearance, they're harmless and very effective at keeping insects under control.
Redbacks prefer quiet outdoor corners such as woodpiles, under outdoor furniture, and sheltered crevices, so take a little extra care when reaching into undisturbed spaces.
